Research

• Personalized medicine concept for mitral valve disease: development and implementation of new tools and concepts to facilitate transfer of cardiothoracic surgery from craftsmanship to smart surgery. The concept of personalized medicine is characterized by three pillars: focusing on whole process of care (from pre-treatment, treatment to post-treatment) rather than the treatment, working with dedicated teams throughout the process and application of pre-operative planning tools (3D reconstructions, 3D printing, simulation, and navigation) to enhance the reproducibility, efficacy, and safety.
• The concept of mathematical surgery: The term mathematical surgery broadly reflects the application of interdisciplinary tools that bring precision and studies patterns and provides standardization for broader use in medical sciences. Mathematical Surgery is an umbrella term which includes the inter-and multidisciplinary interplay for the development and the application of tools like the 3D-image reconstruction, the 3D-printing, the intra-procedural navigation, digital health, Digital Twins, AI and simulation for training operators, selecting patients, planning, predicting and performing interventions, all with the mathematical precision.
